History of Memorial Hall

Memorial Hall has and continues to expand in meeting the changing needs of the educational community, not only locally but also worldwide.

Donna White Aurich founded the school in 1966 in an office building. With the help of Mr. Clyde A. Wilson, land was purchased for our first campus and elementary buildings were built to accommodate our children. The Korean Presbyterian Church later purchased this campus.

The High School was opened on a small tract of land in Spring Branch under the direction of George C. Aurich and a year later moved to a 10 1/2-acre tract of land on Campbell Road donated by Mayor Robert C. Lanier. The Elementary and High School were consolidated on Campbell Road. In May 1986, a contract for the purchase of the entire Memorial Hall School facility was brought forth and we felt this was truly a fantastic opportunity and giant step forward for the entire school program.

The Texas Conference Association of Seventh Day Adventist Churches purchased our entire physical plant at 3911 Campbell Road. We were able to purchase 3721 Dacoma, which now serves as the present Memorial Hall School campus with the help of the Quaker Oats Company and Quaker Oats Foundation who made a most generous contribution in the excess of 1 million dollars toward the purchase of the building and property.

The Moody Activities Center was gifted to Memorial Hall School by the Moody Foundation, Galveston, Texas. This facility houses the gymnasium, work out room, and Jr. High classrooms.
Coca-Cola Foods graciously contributed furnishings.

Gay Roane’s Redstone Corporation provided the new furnishings for the Memorial Hall School Campus and the former RR Reserve Ranch Boy’s Residence. A magnificent residence adjoining the RR Ranch was made available by Mr. & Mrs. Neal Askew. This allowed the school and ranch more opportunities for development and expansion.

Houston Endowment, under the leadership of Mr. J. H. Creekmore and Mrs. Jo Murphy understood the goals as well as needs of Memorial Hall. They believed in, contributed to and allowed Memorial Hall School tremendous opportunities for growth and development throughout the years.

Families, Corporations and Foundations in the Houston Area have been most generous throughout the year allowing much opportunity for the school.
Reverend and Mrs. George Aurich have been and remain major contributors to Memorial Hall.
