Mathematics
Pre Algebra
Credit: 1 credit – Freshman
CONTENT: This course provides in-depth support for students who may have gaps in math skills or struggled in math in the past.
SKILLS: Students will learn basic properties of real numbers, logical procedures for working with variables, solution of open sentences (equations and inequalities), factoring of polynomials, solution of systems of equations and graphing techniques. Application of acquired skills through solution of word/application problems is stressed. Students will be instructed in the use of the graphing calculator as an integral tool in algebraic exploration, analysis, and problem solving.
Length of course: One year
Algebra I
1 credit – Freshman
CONTENT: This is a standard program in algebra for average and above average students. It provides a strong base for college-bound students.
Algebra II
1 credit – Junior, Senior
CONTENT: This course provides a thorough review of Algebra I and begins a detailed study of irrational and complex numbers, quadratic equations, systems of equations, relations and functions, graphing techniques and graphical analysis.
SKILLS: Students will be able to solve linear and quadratic equations. They will factor polynomials, learn analytic methods and use the graphing calculator. Students will be introduced to honors algebraic procedures including matrix operations, linear programming, and statistical analysis.
PREREQUISITES: 1 credit in Geometry/or concurrent enrollment, a grade of 75 or higher in the second semester of Algebra I.

Geometry
1 credit – Freshman, Junior, Senior
CONTENT: This is a college-preparatory course, designed to develop an understanding of geometric relations in a plane and in space.
SKILLS: Students will be introduced to inductive and deductive reasoning in mathematical and non-mathematical situations, developing the ability to think creatively and critically. The need for clarity and precise language is stressed.
PREREQUISITES: Algebra I or Honors Algebra I
LENGTH OF COURSE: One year
Pre Calculus
1 credit – Senior
CONTENT: This course focuses on the application of algebra and trigonometry to the study of polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic and trigonometric functions and their graphs. Special emphasis is given to problem solving, the appropriate use of technology, and skills that are needed for calculus.
PREREQUISITES: Algebra I, Geometry, 80 or better in the second semester of Algebra II.
